Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz engaged in a phone conversation, during which they jointly called for the extension of a crucial deal enabling the safe export of grain and fertilizers from three Ukrainian Black Sea ports. A spokesperson for Chancellor Scholz confirmed the discussion. President Zelenskyy, in his nightly video message and through his Telegram posts, highlighted that their conversation focused on defense cooperation and the upcoming NATO summit in Lithuania. Ukraine aims to secure a clear indication of its future membership in the Alliance during the summit.

President Zelenskyy stressed the significance of maintaining security certainty in Europe to prevent Russian aggression and tyranny. He emphasized that Russia tends to exploit security uncertainties to pursue its territorial ambitions, but when there is clarity and stability, Russian attempts to disrupt security are deterred.
